Out of the DMV area, a producer named ANDRÉUS dropped a five-minute sonic manifesto that signals the birth of a new label, Red Set Records. Released in April, this isn’t just a debut single for the label, but a full-blown system shock.
The track is a beast of pure dubstep, one that builds you up with glassy, atmospheric synths only to throw you headfirst into a vortex of gut-punch bass and razor-sharp drums. It’s exactly what the artist was aiming for: a ride that’s both intense and totally surreal.
The story of ANDRÉUS doesn’t start in some stuffy music academy.
It starts where a whole generation’s love for music began: with a video game controller in hand. Picture it—a seven-year-old kid hammering away on the plastic drum kit for Rock Band on the Wii, feeling that connection to rhythm for the very first time. That was the spark.
But the explosion came later, when his older brother played him Skrillex. For a kid just getting into drumming, hearing those mangled, futuristic sounds was a mind-scrambling moment of “how is that even possible?“. The answer came from his drum instructor, Tarek, who put him in front of a Native Instruments Maschine, unlocking the power to not just play the beat, but to build the sounds that would break it.
“BAUOW” is the direct result of that obsession. ANDRÉUS wanted to make his first real-deal dubstep track, drenched in the melodic chaos of color bass. You can hear the ghosts of his inspirations rattling around in its DNA—the head-spinning energy of “Turn It Up – Slushii & Affinity VIP” and the melodic heart of “Stay” by TYNAN and Ace Aura are in there somewhere. But the final product is all ANDRÉUS. It’s a track that breathes, with wide-open spaces that give you a second to catch your breath before the next drop hits you like a tidal wave of distorted, shimmering noise.
After dropping his “Showdown” EP in 2022, things went quiet. Now we know why. He was in the lab, sharpening his tools and wiring up this monster. “BAUOW” is the sound of an artist who has leveled up, returning to the scene with a vengeance and a whole new record label to back him up. And if this is how they’re starting, you might want to buckle up. Things are about to get loud.
