Originally from just outside Liberty, Missouri, guitarist and composer Jeff Shirley has been crafting music since the age of seven. What began as fingerstyle guitar at 13 soon grew into a lifelong pursuit of jazz mastery. Influenced early on by legends like Steve Vai and Pat Metheny, Jeff quickly found his voice in the world of jazz—earning a spot in the All-District Jazz Band in Kansas City and eventually graduating with a jazz performance degree from the University of North Texas, a school renowned for its music program.

Jeff’s musical journey has brought him back to Kansas City, where he’s become a rising force in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. His work is both respectful of jazz tradition and bold in innovation, blending classic tones with fresh, modern energy. That approach earned him a nomination as one of KC’s top four favorite jazz guitarists by readers of JAM Magazine in 2021.

Currently, Jeff leads the Jeff Shirley Organ Trio, playing all-original jazz compositions every Monday and Thursday late night at the Green Lady Lounge, a Kansas City staple. Performing alongside top-tier musicians like Mark Slimm, Brian Steever, and Antonio Reyes, the trio delivers rich, groove-based jazz that captivates both purists and new listeners alike.
