Texas Teen TommyG Brought the House Down in New York City

Texas Teen TommyG Brought the House Down in New York City

The lights were low, the room electric, and the air inside The Bitter End carried the weight of music history. Bob Dylan once stood on this stage. Lady Gaga did too. And now, on a warm July night in 2025, so did TommyG — a 13-year-old singer from Katy, Texas, stepping into that same spotlight with a confidence that belied his age.

Microphone in hand, he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and let the music pour out. Within seconds, the crowd was hooked. They weren’t just hearing a kid sing – they were watching a young artist arrive. It was the culmination of years of hard work, countless rehearsals, and a dream that started in the most ordinary of places: a Texas primary school classroom.

A Voice Finds Its Way

Long before TommyG was lighting up New York City stages, he was just Thomas — a kid who couldn’t stop singing. “I was always volunteering to sing at school assemblies and jumping into talent shows,” he remembers. What started as innocent fun quickly turned into something deeper: a passion that wouldn’t let go.

When the world slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic, TommyG used that time to double down on what he loved. He took extra singing lessons and started performing wherever he could. Soon, he was fronting a local band, playing at community events and festivals around Texas — from back-to-school celebrations to Lunar New Year parties.

Country music became part of his early story, too. At local Opry events in Alvin, TommyG wowed audiences with his heartfelt takes on classics like Vince Gill’s Liza Jane, Zac Brown Band’s Chicken Fried, and Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey. Those performances taught him how to connect with an audience — a skill that would carry him far beyond his hometown.

Family, Mentors, and the Spark That Started It All

Behind every rising star is a support system, and TommyG is the first to acknowledge his own. His dad, always in his corner, has been a constant source of encouragement. His vocal coaches helped shape his talent into something stage-ready. And perhaps most importantly, his older sister lit the initial spark.

She was always singing in the car,” TommyG says, smiling. “Listening to her made me realize this was something I wanted to do too.”

The Sound of Summer: “Good Life Lovin’”

By 2024, TommyG’s journey was picking up speed. That summer, he released his first original single, “Good Life Lovin” — a three-minute, sun-soaked anthem about friendship, freedom, and endless summer days. With its catchy hooks and breezy lyrics, the track captures the spirit of youth in motion: “Don’t worry ‘bout nothing / It’s just another day / We’re good life lovin’ / And we’re living our own way.”

The song marked a milestone — proof that TommyG wasn’t just a talented singer; he was an artist with something to say. It followed his earlier release, “SIO”, a bold, rhythmic track that showed off his vocal range and growing confidence.

Broadway Bound – A Summer at Joffrey

In June 2025, he took a leap into the world of musical theater, earning a coveted spot in the Musical Theater Summer Intensive at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. The program is known for shaping future Broadway stars, and TommyG dove in headfirst.

For three weeks, he trained with top instructors in dance, acting, singing, and audition prep. Each week focused on a different Broadway show — The Lion King, Wicked, Boop, Hell’s Kitchen, and Smash — blending intense rehearsals with real-world performance experience.

One of the standout moments came when TommyG was cast as Simba in The Lion King, commanding the stage in a lead role that showed just how far his skills had come. Students also attended Broadway shows as part of the program, deepening their understanding of what it takes to make magic on stage. “It was amazing,” he recalls. “I learned so much about performing — not just singing, but how to move, how to act, how to tell a story. It made me fall in love with the stage even more.

Taking on NYC: Kids Rock for Kids and the Birth of Pangea

If Joffrey was about training, July 2025 was about triumph. That month, TommyG was invited to join a global band for the 4th Annual Come Together Festival hosted by Kids Rock for Kids (KRFK), a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that connects young artists from around the world through music.

The band — later named Pangea — brought together extraordinary young musicians: drummer Yoyoka Soma from Japan, guitarist Bay Melnick Virgolino from New York, bassist Maximo Olmedo from Chile, guitarist Aanika Pai from Gibraltar, vocalist Olivia Catalano from Long Island, and TommyG from Texas. Together, they became living proof of music’s power to unite across borders.

Over four unforgettable days, Pangea took over some of New York’s most legendary venues: The Mercury Lounge, DROM, and of course, The Bitter End. Their performances of rock classics weren’t just covers — they were explosive, youthful reinterpretations that had audiences on their feet. And at the center of it all was TommyG, singing with heart, grit, and the joy of someone who knows he’s exactly where he belongs.

The Road Ahead

From a primary school stage in Texas to legendary rock clubs in Manhattan, TommyG’s journey so far reads like a coming-of-age movie set to music. But for all he’s accomplished — the original songs, the Broadway training, the global collaborations — he’s still just getting started.

With a steadily growing fan base online, he’s proof that passion, hard work, and a fearless heart can take you from a small-town classroom to the biggest stages in the world. And if that night at The Bitter End was any indication, TommyG isn’t just chasing a dream — he’s living it.
